The briefingTuesday, mid-morning.
PlaceA lane of six houses off the low road, about a kilometre back from the Kelani Ganga. Your nearest gauging station is Hanwella.
SeasonSecond inter-monsoon. Three days of heavy rain upstream.
Households in your care6
A fictional lane of six households on low ground in the Kelani basin. The gauging stations, their units and their published thresholds are the real ones.
A training scenario. Nothing here is a real warning.
Your household card says: My station — Hanwella. Basin — Kelani Ganga. Alert 7.00, Minor 8.00, Major 10.00. Units — metres.
The lane has one way out: the low road, which dips under a culvert before it reaches the high road.
Mr Peiris, two doors down, uses a wheelchair. His ramp is at the back, away from the road.
Everyone has lived here through floods before, and that is both the reason they will listen and the reason they will not.
No preparedness bonus. Fill in your household card and tick the ten things first and you start this quest better off, exactly as a household would. Do that now — or play without it.
